Must-Watch Netflix Spanish Shows

I have created a separate category just for Spanish shows. I am kind of obsessed. There was a period of time when all I would watch were Spanish TV series with English subtitles.

These are the ones I have watched that I enjoyed:

Money Heist

Netflix Description: Eight thieves take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan.

This show is mind blowing good. I have to admit the subtitles in this show move really fast and it’s hard to read sometimes but it is worth sticking with it. One of the best shows I have ever seen! When looking up the description I found out that there is a Part 3 coming in July! I thought it was done and over. Can’t wait to see what Part 3 is all about.

Grand (Gran) Hotel

Netflix Description: To learn the truth about his sister’s mysterious disappearance, a young man infiltrates a hotel in the guise of a footman and begins an investigation.

This was the very first subtitled show I watched on Netflix. I was hooked from the start. It’s a Spanish drama set in the early 1900’s. It ran from 2011 to 2013. Three Seasons.

Cable Girls

Netflix Description: In 1920s Madrid, four women at the National Telephone Company ring in revolution as they manage romance, friendship and the modern workplace.

This show is interesting in that the music played throughout is modern but the show is set in the 1920s. It’s hard to adjust to at first, but give this show a chance. It’s really good!

Narcos

Netflix Description: The true story of Colombia’s infamously violent and powerful drug cartels fuels this gritty gangster drama series.

Most people have heard of this show. I have to admit, it wasn’t one I was dying to see. I only ended up watching it because I felt like there was nothing else to watch. Why did I wait so long to watch this show??? I loved it from start to finish. It’s a mix of both English and Spanish which is easy to follow. Narcos is a must see!

Morocco: Love in Times of War

Netflix Description: n 1921, nurse trainees from Madrid’s upper class open a hospital in Melilla for Rif War soldiers, finding friendship and romance while saving lives.

As you get in to these shows you’ll notice some of the same actors. I like that. It’s kind of hard to accept them as a different character but that is acting haha. Morocco is a quick and entertaining series to watch.

Juana Ines

Netflix Description: Juana Inés de la Cruz, a powerful feminist nun involved in a forbidden love affair with a woman, faces oppression in 17th-century Mexico.

This series was slow at first but I stuck with it, and I am glad I did. The show portrays the incredible real life story of Juana Ines.

Velvet

Netflix Description: In 1950s Spain, the heir to a fashion house romances a beautiful seamstress who works for the company, despite the objections of his family.

Velvet was a surprise for me. I fell absolutely in love with this show. I didn’t think that a series revolving around fashion would be my type of show, but I was wrong! Miguel Ángel Silvestre stars in this show and he has become one of my favourite actors. He is also in Narcos, mentioned above. I’ll point him out later on in another great series I watched. I was sad when this one ended.

Velvet Coleccion

Netflix Description: In the late ’60s, fashion designer Ana enlists friends Clara, Pedro and Raúl to open a store and design school in Barcelona in this “Velvet” spinoff.

Just when I was sad that Velvet had ended up popped Velvet Coleccion as a Netflix recommendation for me. It’s a spinoff to Velvet. Some of the same characters are in this one, but not all.
